The two new harness racing
operators in California--Cal Expo Harness and Sacramento
Harness Association--along with the CHHA, have jointly
announced a new horse incentive program to benefit horses
that did not compete at the track in 2005, prior to Aug. 6.
When any new horse (excluding 2-year-olds) makes a first
start, the owner of record will receive a $500 bonus. When
that same new horse makes its 10th start, the owner of
record will receive an additional $500 bonus. The new horse
with the most wins during the period of Aug. 6 to Dec. 30
will receive a $10,000 bonus, and the new horse with the
most money earnings during the incentive period will also
receive a $10,000 bonus.
"This incentive plan, coupled with the new year-round
schedule, has energized the owner base," said Dave Elliot
assistant general manager for racing at Cal Expo.
