California Standardbred Hall of Fame

The California Harness
Horsemen’s Association (CHHA) will induct two outstanding
horsemen and two outstanding horses on Sunday, March 25th,
as its class of the 2006 Hall of Fame.
Selected from a large group of nominations, driver-trainer
Jim Grundy and owner-industry maverick Marvin Shapiro will
join 2005 inductees Leland Stanford, Joe O’Brien, Jim
Dennis, Bobby Gordon and Steve and Vicki Desomer in the
prestigious Hall. California equine standouts Courageous Red
and Gee Gee Digger will join the 2005 inductee Electioneer
on the equine side of the ledger.
The California Hall of Fame recognizes people that have
contributed significantly to California harness racing as a
breeder, an owner, a trainer, or a driver and/or through
organizational leadership or people that have achieved
national prominence in one of the those categories and have
significant California attachments are considered for
induction. Horses that have achieved prominence in racing or
reproduction and have done so in California or have been
outstanding in racing or breeding and whose breeders,
owners, or trainers are or were residents of California were
also considered for induction.
The inductees will be recognized during the California
Harness Horsemen’s Annual meeting and luncheon to be held on
Sunday, March 25th, at the Hilton Arden West in Sacramento
at 12 noon.
