Don Pierce of Turlock,
California passed away on May 15, 2005 at his home after a
long illness.
Don, a true California Horseman, was born in California on
July 26, 1935. He started his career on the California Fair
Circuit, and became a top-catch driver at several of the
pari-mutual tracks around the country.
He was recently honored by California Harness Horseman’s
Association as a recipient of a “Lifetime Achievement Award”
for his outstanding horsemanship, integrity and service to
the industry.
His favorite hobby was prospecting for gold in the
California Hills.
He is survived by 5 children, including this year's Harness
Hall of Fame inductee Ron Pierce, who followed Don into the
horse business. On Saturday, May 21st, fellow California
horsemen will pay their respect by presenting the Don Pierce
Memorial Race with a winners circle moment of silence.
