Mountain View, CA --- The
California Amateur Driving Club (CADC),
in concert with the California State
Fair and Television Games Network (TVG),
will kick off, on Wednesday, August
17, the first two legs of the
scheduled eight-race amateur driving
series to be contested at Cal-Expo
Raceway. These races will represent
the first amateur racing in
California since 2001. Sixteen
drivers have been nominated to the
series.
The series will raise several
thousand dollars for Saddle Pals, an
equine therapeutic riding center.
Saddle Pals, a division of United
Cerebral Palsy, is a Sacramento-area
therapeutic horsemanship program
that provides services to
individuals with physical or
developmental disabilities.
The series winner will be eligible
to represent California in the Tim
Fouts Memorial Amateur Race, held
each fall during the Grand Circuit
meet in Delaware, Ohio.
Club president David Siegel said “we
are off to a great start in
rebuilding the amateur program here
in California. Such a program sets
harness racing apart from nearly all
other sports, in that owners can
actually participate in the game. We
are thankful that the Fair and TVG
are giving us this opportunity and
even more thankful that we can help
the Saddle Pals program.
“The support of the organizations
involved and our horsemen has been
outstanding. I am confident of the
series’ success and hopeful that we
can continue amateur driving here in
California, well into the future.”
