Sunshine Pro-Am Challenge and Legends Races Start Monday Night
Free Programs and Analysis Available

Saturday, March 10, 2012 - by David Siegel

An innovative Pro-Am series hosted by Pompano Park is only days away.  Pompano Park has further enhanced their programs on Monday and Tuesday night by adding a “Legends” race where the drivers have amassed over 64,000 wins.

TrackMaster is making available free full past performance programs for the two nights in addition to free TrackMaster Greg selections.  TrackMaster Greg has also devoted a special blog for the Pick-4 sequence that includes the three Sunshine Pro-Am Challenge races and the Legends races (races 5-8).  The Pick-4 races will also be carried on TVG and carry a guaranteed pool of $5000 on both Monday and Tuesday nights.

The Legends races will feature 10-horse fields being reined by drivers with over 64,000 lifetime victories in total.  Heading the list will be 8000-win drivers Doug Brown, Bruce Ranger, Dale Hiteman and Wally Hennessey.  In addition, two native Californian drivers will participate – Rick Plano (5000+) and Ed Hensley (4000+).  Rounding out the other four drivers are Dave Ingraham, Richard Simard, Joe Pavia and Mickey Micnichol, all with well over 4000 wins apiece.

Cal-Expo driver Steve Wiseman is excited to be combining some business with pleasure during his trip to Pompano.  "I am really looking forward to driving at Pompano for the first time. Racing with the Florida greats will be exciting for me. As an added bonus, I get to spend some real quality time with my daughter who will be traveling with me, and see so many of my old friends from Cal-Expo that have left to race at Pompano."

Dave Siegel, an avid amateur reinsman thinks an occasional variation in the otherwise repetitive nature of harness racing programs is a winning move.  Amateur clubs around the county entice some me n and women to become owners and allow for some creativity in the tracks weekly offerings.  Jamie Marra has done a great job building up the Florida club in a similar fashion that Steve Oldford has done in Michigan.  Add to that the Billings series and other regional clubs, and you have enough to make a positive impact on the sport attracting more owners.  Events like this Pro-Am Challenge, or the East-West Challenge that we host at Cal-Expo annually give amateurs something to aspire to and allows us to present something new and different to the wagering public.  When folks can really get focused on a common promotional goal, some really good things can happen.  The occasional special event like this really spices up the game.”
