Annual Meeting Held, Awards Presented
& Election of Directors Postponed

The 2011 Annual Membership Meeting of CHHA was held this past Sunday, March 27th beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel nearby Cal Expo.  More than 60 horsemen were in attendance. During the business portion of the meeting, President Alan Kirschenbaum, Executive Director Horowitz and CHHA Board Member Chris Schick spoke about the Status of and Prospects for the future of Racing at Cal Expo, this included an update on the current overpayment of purses and an overview on CHHA’s Income & Expense Report for fiscal year 2010. Next, the Hall of Fame Awards were presented by Robin Clements. Inductees for 2011 included Oprah, Rowdy Yankee and Dr. Gary Budhan. A Lifetime Commitment Award was also presented to Don & Barbara Arnstine.
The Sires Stakes Program then presented its awards for 2010. Susan Travers and Alan Kirschenbaum presented plaques to the owner-trainer conections of the Two- and Three Year Old Champions:
          Three-Year-Old Champions: One Hot Tamale (Wayne & Rod Knittel/Rick Plano); Hi Ho Steverino (Wayne & Rod Knittel/Rick Plano); Betty Elizabeth (Lisa Pilcher); Frank’s Best (Bobby Johnson).
          Two-Year-Old Champions: Racetrack Diva (Robert Bacon & Denise Maier/Tim Maier); Shamderock (D & E Racing/Rick Plano); Claim Jumper (Desomer Stables/Vickie Desomer); Im So Sulky (Alan Anderson).
          Trainer/Awards for 2010, Earnings: Rick Plano; Overall Performance: Bobby Johnson.
          The Driver Award for 2010 was presented to Steve Wiseman.
Stallion Awards for 2010 included: Power of Art for Pacing Stallion and Panama Hanover, Trotting Stallion of the Year.
The awards presentations concluded with the awarding of CHHA’s prestigious “Horse of the Year for 2010. Frank’s Best was so honored.
In other Association business, the election for Directors will be conducted a second time as the previous set of ballot materials lacked a Signature Card as required by CHHA’s By-Laws. All previously received ballots will be considered invalid, and a second and valid election packet will be mailed out shortly. These new and valid ballots will be opened and tabulated in the CHHA office beginning at Noon on Friday, April 15th. Candidates and other members are welcome to attend. The results of this valid election process will be announced to the membership upon tabulation.
