Little Box Out, Out And About At Cal Expo
Thursday, August 25, 2011 - by Mark Ratzky, Publicity -- Cal Expo

Little Box Out is a 7-year-old son of Little Steven who has earned his $103,000 bankroll the old-fashioned way, scoring 22 victories from his 155 lifetime trips to the post, and he’ll attempt go add another snapshot in Friday night’s (August 26) fifth race at Cal Expo.
Matias Ruiz conditions the hard-knocking pacer for Norm Honath and Derick Takahashi and is looking forward to a strong effort with Dave Siegel handling the reins.
“I’ve had him for about a year now and he’s one of those horses who knows his job and goes out there and does it,” his mentor noted.
While Ruiz spent seven weeks during the summer break in New Jersey, Little Box Out got some farm time while under the watchful eye of co-owner Takahashi.
“He kept him nice and fit and he’s been doing well since I’ve come back,” Ruiz said.
Little Box Out tipped his hand with a strong qualifier last week, as he carved out all the fractions before being overpowered late by the classy Ivegotwhatuneed, who does his work in Friday evening’s feature. They came a solid last quarter in that affair and it should have Little Box Out ready to rock and roll in his starter allowance assignment.
“That was a good mile for him, because the winner is a real nice pacer,” Ruiz said.  “Even though he’s raced well on the lead, I actually think he does his best when he’s not rushed from the gate and can settle early and make his move at the end.  We’ll just have to see how things come up.”
